Touches From The Nature
林墨的这批作品是对过去作品的一次极大的升级,咋看上去好像无论在作品的尺度和厚度上都有很大的变化,但是如果你了解他在上世纪80年代就开始抽象绘画的探索时,我们就会把这种变化看作是一种自然的演变。
30年过去了,这其中有各种摸索和磨练,但是他通过抽象的视觉形象表达他从自然中汲取的能量,和捕捉那些瞬间即逝的活动元素,才是林墨不间断摸索的动力源泉。抽象绘画对艺术家尤其是中国艺术家来说难度不小,因为在现代艺术史上,可以让世界一震的抽象艺术早在上世纪五十年代就出现了,既然抽象绘画已经发展了半个多世纪,要想超越和接力都没那么容易。
那么林墨在哪些方面有他独特的一面呢?首先这些作品给人以平面架上绘画的感觉,可是当你更进一步接触作品时,你就会发现那些崎岖不平坦的表层上有用语言难以描述的丰富、神秘和苍茫。这些作品的完成体现了这样一个过程,那就是不断地做加法,到了一定程度又开始做减法,这个所谓的减法就是在已经停止的表层上进行雕刻和取舍,从而达到苍茫和浑然一体景观效果。
这些作品让我想起宋代绘画中那些震撼人心的山水巨作,关于这些山水画都居于这样一种美学,就是“远看取其势,近看取其质”。在林墨的新作中兼备了这两种元素,所以说,林墨这个艺术浪子的作品来自母语是名副其实的。

Preface
This series of work of Lin Mo is a great upgrade for the past works ,seems like it have great changes no matter in the scale and thickness of the works, but if you know him began the exploration of abstract painting in the 1980s, we will consider this change as a natural evolution.
From the last 30 years, there are all sorts of groping and tribulations that Lin experienced, but through abstract expression of the visual image that he draw energy from nature, and capture the activity elements from fleeting moment, it is the power source of Lin Mo’s uninterrupted groping. Abstract paintings is difficult for artists, especially Chinese artists, because in the modern history of art, those abstract arts that makes the world shocks had emerged in the early 1950s, since abstract painting has developed for more than half a century, it is difficult to transcend and relay.
Lin Mo has his peculiar aspects of unique sides. First of all, these work gives a person the sense with plane painting, but when you further contact with his work, you will find the rough uneven surface has the indescribable richness, mysterious and boundless. The completion of the works reflected such a process, that is constantly add on to the works, but to a certain degree it begin to subtraction, the so-called subtraction is to engraving and trade-offs on the stopped surface layer, so as to achieved the landscape with boundless and seamless effect.
These works make me think of the breathtaking landscape painting of the Song dynasty. All of these landscape paintings are contained such aesthetics, which is "Look at the potential distantly and to see the quality when closer". Both of these elements are available in Lin Mo's new work, so it is true that Lin Mo's work are touches from the nature.
